The vision for a municipality acts as a roadmap for the future. It is built upon community consensus to promote continued support and implementation over time. The vision document acts as the basis for the Comprehensive Plan, which is the regulatory blueprint for the community.

The City of Ocala will hosting four meetings were held to collect public input, along with online surveys and small group presentations.

Meeting days and times were as follows:

The 2035 Vision brought about many positive advancements for the City of Ocala including:

Form Based Code
Implementation of two new Community Redevelopment Areas (CRA), and the expansion of the Downtown CRA.
Created an incentive program to encourage infill, development or redevelopment.
Include sidewalk improvement in the annual Capital Improvement Program.

This map was developed during the 2035 Vision process and shows the areas of intensity within the City.

About the 2035 Vision

The Ocala 2035 Vision was completed by the community and adopted by the City of Ocala City Council on October 19, 2010. Please click here to view or download the final Ocala 2035 Vision document (Adobe PDF, 16MB).

After several months of public design workshops, community discussions, and research on other communities, the public reached consensus on the desired conditions in the City of Ocala in the year 2035 and beyond. The Ocala 2035 Vision addresses design, use and connectivity of the community’s streets; the relationship of its buildings to those streets and how the buildings and streets best serve the community’s pedestrians; and the visual characteristics and separation of uses of the community’s buildings, neighborhoods, commercial districts and open spaces.

This long term vision was based upon community consensus, including numerous public meetings and a citizen Leadership Group, to ensure its continued support and implementation over time. It serves as the basis for identifying community design values and issues for the community’s required Comprehensive Plan Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR), urban form and design policies in the community’s Comprehensive plan, and new standards for design in the community’s development codes and design guidelines.

Effective the April 16 City Council meeting, public comments unrelated to a published agenda item will be heard at the end of the meeting.
